I didn't get much help coming up with a new name for our group. Then I remembered a little booklet written by C.T. Studd about a hundred years ago entitled "Christ's Etceteras." I figure that's as good a name as any. Webster defines "etcetera" as "a number of unspecified additional persons or things." The "etc." is the abbreviation put at the end of a list to represent other things of like character. Seeing as our desire is to be molded into the character of Christ, not calling attention to ourselves but rather to Him, being one of Christ's etceteras is the perfect place to be.

It was great to be with everyone last night over soup, cookies, etc. Luther also enjoyed it, especially his time with Nicholas. (You can see Luther here trying to act all innocent about some of his recent activities, but I think the evidence is against him.)

I guess we didn't really do anything "spiritual" in our time together last night (like having a devotion or singing songs), but whenever brothers and sisters in Christ are together, it is a spiritual experience. We just enjoy being together with the underlying knowledge that we will spend eternity together.

I still want some input about some of the matters we mentioned last night. First of all, what should we call this fellowship group? Since the former Bookworms group will no longer be reading books, Ken suggested just calling ourselves worms. I know that Isaac Watts wrote in his famous hymn "At the Cross" the line "Did He devote that sacred head for such a worm as I?" but something in me is resisting being in a group called "worms." Maybe I need to be more humble. Anyway, give us your ideas in the comments for this post.

We also want to be involved in ministry together. We love our fellowship together, but we want to guard against becoming introverted. Actually, the best fellowship happens when we minister together. So give us your ideas on this too.

Our next meeting will be on February 11 at the Fye's house. Invite whoever will come. Not sure what we'll be doing yet, but we want Christ to be exalted in whatever that happens to be.

By the way, I know nothing about blogging, so bear with me as I learn my way around. David

Getting Started

There's nothing special about this post. It's just to see how it's done. The prayer is that this blog will become a tool for fellowship and blessing to the small Christian community who find their home at Fellowship Bible Church in Fuquay-Varina, NC.
